The Columbus Area Chapter of Blacks in Government (CACBIG) was incorporated in November 1980, in Columbus, Ohio.  On April 16, 1981, the local chapter submitted an application for membership to the National BIG organization. On that date, there were 28 paid members in the local chapter.

The CACBIG is the only chapter in the Columbus metropolitan area. CACBIG is a part of the Great Lakes Midwest Region V, which covers Illinois, Indiana, Michigan
, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin with approximately 450 active members.  Nationally. BIG boast a membership of over 10,000 with more than 270 chapters in the United States and overseas.


CACBIG is open to all local, city, state and federal government employees in Columbus and the surrounding areas. The bulk of the CACBIG current membership roster are employees of the Defense Supply Center of Columbus, however, the chapter has expanded its membership beyond the DSCC installation.
